Essex Intermediate School

Dear Parent(s)/Guardian(s),

Welcome to what promises to be an exciting and rewarding 2018-2019 school year at Essex Intermediate School! It’s an honor to congratulate our scholars, teachers and parents for their hard work last school year leading to ACCREDITATION! We must strive to continue with this momentum. I trust that all of our scholars took advantage of the opportunity to balance time with reading and relaxing throughout their summer break.  This year, our school will emphasize the importance of “Knowing Your Why” as we show CARE in order to build and maintain healthy relationships as an EIS Bulldog Family! At EIS, we strongly desire for our scholars to understand their purpose as they embark upon and achieve their individual Pathways to Excellence by personalizing the educational experiences of our children! As such, we will be intentional about incorporating rituals and routines that promote respect and rapport as a school community. We will also reinforce positive thoughts and actions by affirming the theme “I Think, THEREFORE, I AM…B.A.R.K.S.!” Through the continued implementation of our PBIS Program, we will instill the EIS Bulldog B.A.R.K.S. values. Each Essex Intermediate School scholar will be expected to aim to epitomize what it means to

BE…the change. Accept diversity. Reflect. Kindly use words & actions. & Seek scholarship, service & safety.”

Please note the following pertinent information as you plan to partner with us to ensure a successful school year.  The first day of school is Tuesday, September 4, 2018. Our school hours are from 8:10am to 3:15pm. EIS operates on an A-day/B-day schedule.  Science, Social Studies, Math and English/Language Arts cores will all last for ninety minutes.  Elective classes will be forty-five minutes long. Students are allowed to enter the building at 7:50a.m. School meals, both breakfast and lunch, are offered through our cafeteria for FREE this school year. Money may be added to your child’s account if they desire to get additional food/snacks outside of what’s offered for free. When purchasing book bags, please remember that they must be able to fit in your child’s locker and should have wheels. If you have not received any automated phone calls or emails from Essex Intermediate School, please ensure you provide an updated enrollment sheet during Open House. Our Open House will be held on August 27, 2018 where 4th & 5th graders attend from 4:30pm-5:30pm and 6th & 7th graders attend from 5:30pm-6:30pm. We welcome you to attend our events throughout this school year.

Again, welcome to a new and exciting 2018-2019 school year at Essex Intermediate School.  Please feel at liberty to contact any of our staff members with questions, concerns, or ideas at (804) 443-3040. Partnering with you this year is vital to us as we are committed to our goal of ensuring that our scholars receive a positive, memorable, student-led, equitable educational experience that is immersed in technology, rigorous, and promotes student leadership. Ultimately, we anticipate the success of our scholars along their educational journey toward college and career readiness. GO BULLDOGS!
